H1N1 Vaccine for Infants and Toddlers
We have run out of our allotment of the H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccines for children ages 6 months to 2 years who require the injectable vaccine.   Call the New Hanover County Health Department Vaccine Line at 798-6646 to set up a time to get your child his or her vaccine there.

We Have Nasal Spray for H1N1 and Seasonal Flu Available
We have finished vaccinating most of our asthma and other high-risk patients, and have H1N1 and seasonal nasal spray still available to patients ages 2 years and up.  The seasonal flu has still not begun yet in Wilmington.  Please call to make a nursing appointment to get your child vaccinated if they have not received their H1N1 or seasonal flu vaccine.

Health Departments Now Have Limited Supplies of the H1N1 Vaccine
Only the county health departments have received large quantities of H1N1 vaccine.  The H1N1arrived at the New Hanover Health Department last month, and should be arriving by the end of November at other area health departments.  Only small amounts of H1N1 have arrived at pediatric offices so far.  No pediatric offices have been told when or even if we will receive more H1N1.  For more up-to-date information on H1N1, go to http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/

It will be important to try and vaccinate all children this fall, so try and get the vaccines wherever they are available.  To make an appointment for your child, the New Hanover County Health Dept vaccine appointment number is 798-6646.

And yes, Dr. Edwards, Dr. Jackson, and Dr. Player all received their H1N1 at the health department this week!

New Betty H. Cameron Women's and Children's Hospital Opens
Betty.jpg
New Hanover Regional Medical Center finished its new 179,000 square foot Betty H. Cameron Women's and Children's Hospital and is now open for patients since September 14, 2008.  This beautiful state-of-the-art $45 million center is the centerpiece of the medical center's construction plan. It includes all private rooms with full baths, patient and family centered care, decentralized nursing as well as a gift shop, women's boutique and food concession.  In addition, the center allowed New Hanover Regional Medical Center to expand into pediatric intensive care, bridging a gap in services provided in this region, which opened last December.
