New Mom and Dad Classes
Our monthly new mom and dad classes are fun and informative for new parents. Dr. Edwards will cover what will happen
in the hospital after your baby is born, and the first few weeks of life at home with your newborn. It's a great way
to meet our practice as well! Our next upcoming dates are November 24th, December 8th, January 26th, February 16th,
March 29th, April 19th, May 31st, and June 21st. Call today to sign up, since space is limited.
National FluMist Shortage
There is a national shortage of FluMist, the
nasal flu vaccine. Unfortunately this means that we have only the flu shots. It is still very important that your child is
vaccinated this year - but it will likely have to be with the injectable vaccine. Fortunately, there should be no shortage
of injectable vaccine.
Based on the information that we have received from our vaccine distributor, it is possible
that we may not receive any more FluMist this season, and the small amount... we received earlier is already gone. This makes having enough injectable vaccines for extra flu
clinics difficult. We are currently calling parents ahead of scheduled flu clinics to confirm if we have enough in stock,
since our inventory changes daily and is not predictable due to the sudden unexpected shortage of the FluMist.
We anticipate to eventually have enough injectable flu vaccine to accommodate everyone this
flu season, despite the slow start from suppliers.
If the situation changes we will let you know. You may still call
to set up your flu shot appointments at 762-2651

Pardon Our Mess As We Grow
We are continuing our remodel of the office next week! Through the second week of October, we are expanding
our new look for the office down the hallway. The office will be open for business as usual, since the crew
will be working at night and on weekends.

Have you traveled internationally?
If you or your child recently traveled internationally or had close contact with someone who recently traveled internationally
and was ill, and you have fever, cough, trouble breathing, rash, vomiting, or diarrhea, please DO NOT come to the office.
Instead, call our office and we will give you further instruction.

The Pediatric Center Earns PCMH Level 3 Recognition
The NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home is
the model of primary care that combines teamwork and information technology to improve care, improve patients' experience
of care, and reduce costs. Medical homes foster ongoing partnerships between patients and their personal clinicians,
instead of approaching care as the sum of episodic office visits. Each patient's care is overseen by clinician-led care
teams that coordinate treatment across the health care system. Research shows that medical homes can lead to higher
quality and lower costs, and can improve patient and provider reported experiences of care.
“NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition raises the bar in defining high-quality
care by emphasizing access, health information technology and coordinated care focused on patients,” said NCQA President
Margaret E. O’Kane. “Recognition shows The Pediatric Center has the tools, systems and resources to provide its
patients with the right care, at the right time.”
To earn recognition,
which is valid for three years, The Pediatric Center demonstrated the ability to meet the program’s key elements, embodying
characteristics of the medical home. NCQA standards aligned with the joint principles of the Patient-Centered Medical Home
established with the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics
and the American Osteopathic Association.
