Patrick S. Edwards, MD,
FAAP

Dr. Edwards earned a bachelor of arts degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994.  He went on to earn his doctorate of medicine from East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina in 1999.  He finished a combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania.  Dr. Edwards is board certified in pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. 
 
Dr. Edwards has a special interest in the treatment of ADHD and Type I Diabetes.

Dr. Edwards is married to Dr. Kimberly Edwards, a dermatologist here in Wilmington at Dermatology Associates.  They have two daughters, Audrey and Anna Caroline. They currently live in Wilmington and are members of Wrightsville United Methodist Church.

Dr. Edwards is orginially from the area.  He lived in Wilmington until the age of five, when he and his parents moved to Whiteville, his parent's hometown. Dr. Edwards graduated from Whiteville High School in 1990, and his brother and parents still live in Whiteville today.

Aside from his love for comic books and Star Wars, Dr. Edwards's hobbies include boating, playing the piano, biking, and travel.

   
   

Jennifer F. Player, MD, FAAP

Dr. Player is originally from Georgia.  She earned a bachelor of science degree in molecular biology from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and graduated Cum Laude in 1995.  Dr. Player received her doctorate in medicine from Mercer University School of Medicine in Georgia, in 2000, and finished her Pediatric residency at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2003.  She is board certified in pediatrics, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  Dr. Player practiced pediatrics for two years in Blue Ridge, Georgia before moving to Wilmington. 
 
Dr. Player's special interests include newborn care and breast feeding education.
 
She is married to Dr. Greg Player, a family medicine physician who works here in Wilmington at New Hanover Medical Group. They have two daughters, Emily and Kate.
 
Dr. Player's hobbies include spending time with her family at the beach, reading books, and travel.

 
Eric M. Jackson, MD, FAAP

Dr. Jackson is originally from South Carolina.  He earned a bachelor of science degree in Biochemistry from Clemson University in 1998.  Dr. Jackson received his doctorate in medicine from Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in 2003, and finished his Pediatric residency at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in 2006.   He is board certified in pediatrics, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  Dr. Jackson practiced pediatrics for one year in Beaufort, South Carolina, before moving to Wilmington this summer. 
Dr. Jackson and his wife, Katey, have four children: Hannah, Luke, Simon, and new baby Jordan.
Dr. Jackson's hobbies include soccer, piano, guitar, kayaking, and bible study.

 
 
 
Charles M. Hicks, MD, FAAP

Dr. Hicks graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry in 1958, and stayed on to graduate from the Universithy of North Carolina School of Medicine in 1962.  He also finished his pediatrics residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and is board certified in pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  He was in the army as a physician for 2 years until he returned home to Wilmington to practice pediatrics.  Dr. Hicks started The Pediatric Center in 1967 and has been seeing children in Wilmington for over 37 years.  In addition to practicing primary pediatrics, he helped found the first Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in southeastern North Carolina.  He has served as president of the New Hanover-Pender County Medical Society and Chairman of Pediatrics at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Hicks officially "retired" in August 2007, but he still comes by the office every week to say hello, and works part-time several days a month to help see children on our busiest days or if someone is on vacation.

Dr. Hicks is the original founder of our practice in 1967.

Dr. Hicks is originally from Wilmington, a true "local".  He is married to his lovely wife, Donna, and has two daughters.  His hobbies include fishing, boating, and raising horses on his farm.
