Need a reliable online site for simple questions?
You may find the answer to your medical question at the American Academy of Pediatrics website
that has a list of the most commonly asked questions. Visit the the AAP's website http://www.healthychildren.org/.
Need to speak to a nurse?
We offer 24 hour call coverage,
7 days a week. We are here to help you, so don't hesitate to call.
During regular business hours, simply call
our office to speak to one of our nurses that are working the phones at the office:
After regular business hours, simply call our same daytime
office number to reach our nurse answering service.
You will then be connected to a pediatric
nurse through our pediatric answering service. Most often, they can answer your questions after taking a brief history.
Please be patient during the busy winter season, when call volume can be high. If the nurse
doesn't answer immediately, leave your name and number and they will call you back shortly.
Need to speak to the on-call doctor?
If the nurse needs
a physician's help with an urgent matter, they can immediately call the on-call doctor's cell phone. The Pediatric
Center has one of its four pediatricians availabe to the on-call nurses every night, 7 days a week. Each night,
our patients have direct access to either Dr. Edwards, Dr. Player, Dr. Jackson, or Dr. Renton, to help
the on-call nurse with after hours decisions. And since our doctors can access charts from home, that means that
the on-call nurses, via our doctors, will now have access to your child's eClinicalWorks electronic chart 24/7
Weekend Office Hours
We are excited to announce that,
starting in January 2017, The Pediatric Center will be open every Saturday for our patients! We will have walk-in
hours from 9 AM to 11 AM on Saturday mornings to cover our patients' urgent problems, with one of our four
doctors available on a first come/first serve basis during that time. We will no longer be sharing call with other offices
in Wilmington as we have in the past.
After hours or when the office
is closed, we direct our patients for non-emergent care to Wilmington's MedAc Urgent Care. We have a co-management agreement with MedAc Urgent Care, so they can contact our on-call
physician if needed, and send their notes about your child's visit to our office the next day. They have 5 convenient
locations in the Wilmington area and have extended hours on the weekends and holidays. We are confident that our extended
coverage will provide even better care for our patients in 2017!
Emergency Room Visits and Admissions
If you must go to the ER, the ER physicians will take care of your child. If your child is seen by a
pediatrician in the ER, or must be admitted to Pediatrics overnight, we now have board-certified pediatric hospitalists at
the Betty H. Cameron Women's and Children's Hospital that take care of our inpatient children, 24-7. These
are physicians that take care of hospitalized children exclusively, so they are well trained and experienced. If
you are admitted to the Pediatrics Floor, please tell them you are patients at The Pediatric Center. That way,
the hospitalists can keep us updated on our children that are in the Children's Hospital, and let us know your
plan when you are discharged. We also like to try and come by and see our admitted patients when rounding each
